This post will show you how to make bathroom organizers for just $2 with Dollar Tree containers.
We’ve been planning for my daughter’s move to college and we’ve finally gotten to planning the bathroom area. After some shopping, we shifted our energy to creating this Dollar Tree bathroom organization idea.
My posts contain affiliate links which mean I may make commissions on items purchased.
We were shopping for containers for cotton balls and cotton swabs and we saw the options below at Walmart. We didn’t really want to pay $6.97 for each container because we have so many things to buy for her move. Instead, we decided to get a little creative.
We went to the Dollar Tree and found these cute little containers for just $1 each. We knew this would be the perfect Dollar Tree bathroom organization idea. The lids of these containers are a silver color which makes them great for just about any room. However, if you want to customize it a little more, you can go ahead and spray paint the lids.
I already had this Rust-Oleum granite colored paint so it was easy to just give these lids a quick spray. If you don’t already have paint, you can usually grab a can for under $4 at Walmart. My daughter’s room colors and gray, white, and pink so this granite paint that I had worked perfectly. It would be fun to paint them light blue or pastel pink for a baby room. (This would be a fun shower gift add-on). Actually, I have so many ideas for these cute little containers.
I put my lids on top of cans and bottles to help me get the paint around the edges. It was a windy day so the lids didn’t want to stay on the cans. But I made it through the painting process anyway. I only applied one coat of the paint.
Label the jars.
You can use sticker letters from a craft shop. They make a lot of smaller-sized letters in many colors.
Since I have a Cricut cutting machine, I used that to make my letters and my oval shape which fit perfectly into the the grove on the jar. If you are a DIY enthusiast and don’t own a Cricut, I would encourage you search “cricut projects” on Pinterest. I use mine all the time for so many different types of projects.
Printing the oval label
If you want to use the same shape I used to fill my container, just go to images in Cricut Design Space and search “When I was a kid label with a heart”. If you have the subscription, it won’t cost anything. If you don’t it will cost .99 to purchase the shape.
Once you insert the shape onto your canvas, “ungroup” it and separate the two layers. I used the layer without the heart. The size of my shape was 3″ wide and .747″ tall. It fits perfectly into the groove.
Printing the words/letters
The font I used for this project is Kathen, found on dafont.com. I love this font and use it on a lot of projects! The letters fit together so well! This post isn’t a Cricut tutorial so I’m not sharing details of the Cricut process. I un-grouped the letters and scrunched them together. I then re-grouped them and attached and welded them before I cut them. I set all my words to 2.4 inches.
They turned out so cute. I love how the lids looked with the dark gray paint.
The photo below shows the jar from the beginning compared to the completed project.
