Cover Dollar Tree bins with contact paper and use them to organize your drawers.
Drawer bins can be expensive and it’s not something we can afford to spend much money on right now. So, we took a trip to the Dollar Tree where they have so many sizes of plastic bins. I found some packaged in sets of 2 and others in sets of 3. The sizes were perfect, but I wanted something that looked a little less cheap and a bit more feminine.
I headed over to the aisle with the contact paper to find a great design. I’ve used Dollar Tree contact paper for other projects and am always happy with it. It was a tough choice between a subtle gray pattern and the black floral shown below. I decided the floral would be a fun touch for our drawers.
What I used:
- Pack of 2 medium-size bins, $1 from the Dollar Tree
- Pack of 3 small-size bins, $1 from the Dollar Tree
- 2 rolls of floral contact paper, $1 per roll from the Dollar Tree
Cover corners with contact paper.
I love this Dollar Tree contact paper! Not only are there great designs, the contact paper has cut lines on the back. And it’s only $1 per roll.
Cut strips about one inch wide. For the small bins (shown below), I cut two strips, one inch each. Then I cut those in half, giving me four pieces. I wrapped those over each of the corners of the bin and pressed out the wrinkles the best that I could. I repeated that again for the other two small bins.
The picture below shows the bottom side of the bin. Don’t worry what it looks like because it gets covered up with more contact paper. Just press out the wrinkles the best you can. Remember that these bins are full of items and in drawers so people won’t see that kind of detail. For that reason, I don’t spend time trying to make these bins perfect.
Next, cut and adhere a strip of contact paper around the narrow side of the bin.
You can set the bin on the roll to figure out the right line to cut along. If you cut the strip too wide, it will leave a lot of wrinkles when your try to press the sides down. .
Remove the backing from the contact paper and set the bin in the middle of the paper, onto the adhesive side.
Wrap the paper around the bin pressing it onto the bin as you go. It won’t go all the way around, but that’s okay. You will put a rectangular piece in the center later in the process.
As you press the contact paper, press out wrinkles, but again, don’t worry too much about it.
Cut and adhere another strip of contact paper on the wide side of the bin.
Cut a rectangular piece of contact paper to set into the bin.
This hides where the contact paper comes together and makes the bottom look better.
I am happy with how these organization bins turned out! I only took me about ten minutes to cover each one.
