Oscars-worthy party dessert

We love hosting get togethers every year for the Oscars.  These chocolate-covered strawberries were not only delicious, but they were spot-on for the theme of the night.

What you’ll need to make these:

  • Strawberries
  • 2 bags White Wilton Candy Melts
  • 16 ounces of chocolate
  • 2 tablespoons of shortening
  • wax paper or parchment paper

Steps to make tuxedo strawberries

  1. Wash strawberries and dry with paper towel.  Strawberries must be dry before dipping into the chocolate!
  2. Melt the white Wilton candy melts, following instructions on the packaging.
  3. Place parchment paper on a cookie sheet.
  4. Dip strawberries into the melted white chocolate and place onto the cookie sheet, one at a time.
  5. Place cookie sheet of strawberries into the refrigerator until white chocolate is hardened (about 15 minutes).
  6. Melt the milk or dark chocolate, along with the 2 tablespoons of Crisco until the chocolate is smooth.  I take the same approach with this as I do for the Wilton Candy melts (short intervals in the microwave, stirring each time).
  7. Dip each white chocolate covered strawberry into the melted brown chocolate, dipping at an angle on one side and then dipping at the other angle to make the V-line resembling the tuxedo jacket (see photo below).
  8. Use a toothpick dipped into the melted dark chocolate to make the buttons and the bows.  You’ll notice I only created the bows on some of the strawberries that I decorated.

And that’s it!  Tuxedo Chocolate Covered Strawberries!

Dip strawberries in white chocolate first and then after the chocolate hardens, dip them into the milk or dark chocolate
