How to Make the Dollar Tree Pumpkin Wreath DIY
Remove the tinsel from the pumpkin decor.
Find a piece of tinsel to snip.
Cut the tinsel, making sure you don’t accidentally cut the plastic frame.
Carefully pull the tinsel away from the pumpkin frame. You’ll find that the tinsel pulls apart easily and that the tinsel is held onto the plastic by the plastic pegs.
Be careful when pulling off the tinsel as the plastic can break. You’ll see below that a piece of the frame broke off when I was removing the tinsel.
Remove pegs from the plastic frame.
Use wire cutters to clip the pegs off of the wire frame. I like to cut them as close to the frame as possible. Cutting the pegs allows the yarn to sit against the frame better.
Be careful when snipping the pegs as they can fly all over the place. Consider wearing safety goggles.
After cutting all the pegs, repair any sections that broke off. I ended up removing that big bunch of tape on mine and used a glue gun and just a little tape to do my repair.
Wrap yarn around the full perimeter of the wreath frame.
Wrap yarn around each row of of the plastic frame.
After wrapping the yarn around the edge of the pumpkin, I wrap the yarn from left to right along each row of the plastic frame. Then, when I come to an intersection of plastic sections, I create a criss cross with my yarn to create good coverage against the plastic frame.
Keep pushing the yarn close together every time you wrap it around the frame so that it is tight, without gaps so that the plastic doesn’t show through.
As I start each new row or column, I cut a new piece of yarn about two arm lengths longs. I simply tie the yarn onto the frame with a double knot facing the back side.
I just push the whole pile of yarn through each side as I move it around and around the frame. It does get a little twisted towards the end of the row, but it moves much quicker with this approach.
Below you’ll see the wreath with the rows done.
Wrap the yarn around each vertical piece of plastic on the pumpkin frame.
After wrapping the yarn around across each horizontal row, do the same vertically, covering each vertical piece of plastic. Once you get to the end of the piece, tie it off in the back by tucking the yarn under another piece.
Wrap the stem with yarn.
I wrapped the green yarn around each piece of plastic of the stem. After wrapping each section, I tied off the yarn in the back.
Create a loop to use to hang the pumpkin decor.
Cut and tie a small piece of twine into a loop and tie it around the pumpkin (if you’re going to hang it).
And that’s it. Your transformed Dollar Tree Pumpkin Wreath DIY is complete!
